Fastest Known Ride

The most epic rides at legendary speeds.

The best routes: Where are they, Who did them, and how fast?

Prove yourself - by yourself or with others.

How does it work?

Choose from approved routes across the country, whether dirt, gravel, road, etc. Attempt to break records and then upload your file to Strava to earn a Fastest Known Ride.

All attempted times will be ELAPSED TIME. Just like in racing it is total time, not moving time. Figuring out nutrition/hydration could be your key to success.

There are many factors in cycling so devised a way to quantify different routes which contain different surfaces.

Attempts can either be completed alone or with human assistance - no motors of any kind!

Depending on method, attempts will be categorized into separate categories.

Solo

An effort in the purest form. Unsupported /unassisted

OR

Team Time Trial

Work with your mates to push the limit of human powered speed. Maximum of 3.

Qualification of a route:

First, The factors: Road, Gravel, Dirt, Single track

Routes will have different obstacles that will cause a need for certain bicycles. Gear will impact other portions of the ride, so choose your bicycles strategically. Surface types will be awarded different scoring factors to compensate for time and difficulty.

Road

x1

Gravel

x1.5

Dirt

x2

Single Track

x2.5

Second: Distance and Elevation Gain

The distance and elevation gain on each surface is multiplied together by its specified factor. The sum of all the surface scores

Distance (km)

multiplied by

Elevation Gain (km)

The formula:

(Road Distance* Road Elevation Gain * 1) +

(Gravel Distance* Gravel Elevation Gain * 1.5) +

(Dirt Distance* Dirt Elevation Gain * 2) +

(Single Track Distance* Single Track Elevation Gain * 2.5) +

((number of surfaces used - 1) * 10)

= Total score

Routes must score 500 or more to be considered.
